ronda > vihuelo > alcantara > sanlucar
from £1,495 per person
Arrive to Malaga and transfer to Ronda in the early afternoon. Perched on top of a 120m high gorge, this is the most iconic of Andalusia’s white villages. Following bike fitting, explore the cobbled alleys and take in the many reminders of the town’s fascinating Arabic, Roman and Renaissance past before sitting down for a hearty Andalusian meal in the old town overlooking El Tajo gorge.
We will take a short transfer to the charming Molino del Arco, your first overnight location and starting point before the first day cycling.
ronda to el vihuelo
After a relaxed breakfast, venture westwards and make your way to the picturesque white village of Grazalema, nestled in the foothills of the Sierra de Pinar mountain range - 35km from Ronda. The gentle uphill gradient will no doubt whet your appetite for lunch - a delicious spread of tapas in the old town.
Savour the views as you descend on peaceful roads before arriving to El Vihuelo - a wonderful old Andalusian estate at the foot of the Sierra de Cádiz. Stretch your legs and relax with G&Ts and aperitivos by the pool while your Bacchus host prepares a typical Andalusian paella from local produce to be enjoyed in the rustic and beautiful settings of El Viheulo.
el vihuelo to alcantara
Wake up at leisure before setting off from El Vihuelo to Alcantara .We will follow the backroads for a short while before moving onto gravel tracks and dedicated cycle routes. Pause for a delicious Bacchus prepared picnic en route - a selection of fresh Andalusian produce accompanied with a tipple of local sherry.
Once refuelled, continue until Los Cuartillos where Alfonso and his lovely wife, Rocio, will welcome us to their beautiful home and hacienda, Alcantara Ecuestre. Situated in the heart of rich Andalusian countryside, their rustic accommodation is the perfect spot to end your day and enjoy the mouth-watering home cooking of Rocio while Alfonso will make sure your glass is never empty!
Following breakfast, saddle up and cycle to lunch at Ximenez Spinola. The wonderful Jose Antonio will be there to welcome you with open arms to his bodega, the only bodega in the region to produce white wine from the Pedro Ximenez grape. Enjoy a tour and tasting of the Ximenez Spinola sherries, wines and brandies followed by a delicious lunch with him and his family. Be warned - it could go on for a while!
Ride the peaceful backroads to Sanlucar de Barrameda in the afternoon and and arrive to your accommodation for the evening, Posada de Palacio - a hidden gem in the Moorish quarters of town. Enjoy a light dinner in Posada’s restaurant, El Espejo, served by the lovely Melodia.
