challenger tour • 80-100km per day

girona > pyrenees > alt empordà > cap de creus

from £1,450 per person

day one

canet d'adri loop

30km • 450m elevation

The Bacchus team will welcome you at the airport in the morning and transfer you to your accommodation in Girona. After a typical Catalan pica pica lunch in the old quarter of town, unpack your bags in Hotel Historic and prepare for your first ride of the trip - a gentle 30km loop to Canet d’Adri and back.

On return, stop for an afternoon coffee or cerveza in one of Girona’s many charming cobbled backstreets. We will reconvene for a welcome drink followed by Empordà wine tasting and a 3-course dinner in recommended restaurant, El Probocador.

day two

girona to camprodon

107km • 2,425m elevation

After breakfast we will weave our way out of Girona and head north-east into the Garrotxa National Park. Pause for a mid-morning coffee and sandwich stop in Les Planes d’Hostoles and then continue to Olot. Your Bacchus picnic lunch awaits - a selection of delicious local produce including jamón ibérico, local cheese, pate and fresh fruit & veg.

Refuelled, climb through Vall de Bac all the way to Camprodon, your overnight location that boasts spectacular views over the Pyrenees. Enjoy a couple cervezas by the river before sitting down to a well-deserved dinner in Camprodon.

day three

camprodon to can xiquet

92km • 1,990m elevation

Depart from Camprodon after breakfast and launch straight into the first climb of the day over the Col d’Ares mountain pass into French Catalonia. Wend along 40km of quiet backroads before reentering Spain and taking lunch with a view in Tapis. Leave space for the penultimate climb of the day up to La Vajol - a leg-burner that will merit a lengthy siesta by the pool at Can Xiquet!

With panoramic views across the Cap de Creus, Can Xiquet is one of Bacchus’ favourite spots in the Alt Empordà. Stroll down the hill to Masia Serra for wine tasting with Jaume Serra, rated as one of the top wine makers in the region and trained at Chateaux Petrus. Return to Can Xiquet for a typical Catalan dinner and selected local wines.

After a leisurely breakfast, cruise through the Alt Empordàn plains towards the spectacular Cap de Creus National Park. Pause for a mid-morning café cortado in Garriguella before tackling the short climb to Sant Pere de Rodes Monastery. Savour the magnificent view over a lunchtime paella, prepared by Bacchus. Descend down to the coastline and into La Selva after lunch to visit the family-run Mas Estela, a charming vineyard hidden in the many contours of the Cap de Creus.

Nuria and Dider will welcome you for wine tasting and a short tour. With only 12km left from Mas Estela to Cadaques, arrive in time for a relaxed afternoon by the sea. Your accommodation for the night, Llane Petit, sits on the seafront and is walking distance from renowned restaurant, Compartir. Opened by 3 ex-El Bulli Foundation chefs in 2012, it is a Bacchus favourite! (Supplementary cost for tasting menu - €50)

day four

can xiquet  to cadaques

92km • 1,990m elevation

day five

cap de creus

15km loop

Sunrises at the most easterly point of the Iberian Peninsula are worth waking up for! If you wish, rise early for a 15km loop to the Cap de Creus lighthouse  and then return for breakfast in Cadaques. This picturesque seaside town was where Salvador Dali drew inspiration for some of his most famous paintings.

If time permits, visit Dali’s house in Port Lligat before Bacchus provide transfers to Girona or Barcelona for your flight home.
