about this tour

Join us for a four-day cycling tour through the pastoral landscapes of Baix Empordà and Girona. Our local contacts and knowledge from years spent walking, cycling and nurturing relationships with local wine and olive oil makers will give you a unique perspective of a corner of Catalonia infused with fascinating culture, history and jaw dropping vistas.

Situated in Northeastern Catalonia, the Empordà region is relatively unknown given its gastronomic, viticultural and olive oil producing heritage. The people of the Empordà have been producing wine and olive oil since the Greeks, Romans and Arabs inhabited the area two and a half thousand years ago. With its abundance of cultural sites, medieval towns, national parks and fishing villages, combined with a growing number of family-run cellars, olive oil producers and World-renowned restaurants, the potential for wine and olive oil tourism is greater than ever.

The cycling routes we have chosen wend along beautiful back roads and over mountains and hilltops, providing thrilling descents and panoramic vistas. Each evening we will return to the comfort of carefully handpicked accommodation – a beautifully restored medieval castle, a charming 14th century farmhouse and a renovated manor house nestled in the hills of a national park.

We have been home for nearly a week now and still I am filled with wonder at all the glorious landscapes you gave us; I loved everything. All of our time in Europe was wonderful, each segment for a different reason, but truly the highlight for me was rolling through the astonishingly unblemished Spanish countryside and feeling the wind in my face and hair. I can’t wait to do it again! I’ve been slow to write because I keep casting about for a descriptor worthy of my enthusiasm and so far all I can find is “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”. Thanks with all my heart to you especially, Gareth, but also to the whole group for giving us perfect days in a throb of affection and good-natured adventure
