Tony Wallington OBE


Founder of Bacchus, Tony served in the British Army for 30 years, during which time he also competed as an Olympic bobsleigher, captaining the British team in 1980 & 84. He went on to hold major appointments through five Olympic Winter Games. Since retiring from the Army he has established a high profile in business and sports for his leadership programmes and coaching top performance individuals and teams. An epicurean and keen cyclist at heart, Tony conceived the idea of Bacchus the perfect balance between adventure and gastronomic exploration.

Newly appointed as Managing Director in 2016, Gareth arrives to Bacchus with experience in organising and running charitable expeditions. His unquenchable thirst for adventure will be the driving force as Bacchus looks to expand its portfolio of destinations around the world. A strong believer in creating positive change through business, Gareth is focused on transforming Bacchus into a sustainable travel brand that people can identify with because they share our passion for adventure and experiencing a destination through its local people and cuisine.

‘JM’, co-founder of Bacchus, spent much of his early professional life in the property business. Having met Tony through his profession in Catalunya, their friendship was the recipe for Bacchus’ initial 4-day bike tour of the Empordà. With a passion for everything the region has to offer, from sailing, hiking and biking to eating and drinking, his invaluable local knowledge makes these tours the experience of a lifetime. A native Catalan, he looks after Bacchus’ Calonge office, manages relationships with local hotels, restaurants & vineyards, as well as planning cycle routes & logistics.
